Bold Black Cabinets & Marble Waterfall Island
Plano is our home base, and kitchens are our busiest service. Most Plano homes were built solidly in the 1990s and 2000s — great bones, but dated kitchens with builder-grade cabinets, laminate counters, and cramped layouts. Here’s how we brought one Plano kitchen fully into 2026 without changing the home’s footprint.
Our Plano clients loved their home but hated cooking in their kitchen. Tight workspace. Storage they couldn’t reach. A fluorescent overhead fixture that made every meal feel like a hospital cafeteria. Cabinets with 1990s oak that had seen better days. They didn’t want to move walls or add square footage — they just wanted a kitchen that worked and looked beautiful.

Five decisions, in the order we made them.
New full-height pantry cabinets, pull-out drawers in every base, custom spice storage, and soft-close everything.
Reflects light, hides fingerprints, and ages beautifully.
Handset tile in a classic pattern, brushed nickel pulls, and a modern faucet.
Recessed LEDs replaced the fluorescent box, pendants added over the peninsula, and under-cabinet LEDs for task lighting.
The existing engineered hardwood was refinished to a warmer tone that better complements the new cabinetry.
This Plano kitchen went from a dated, dim workspace to the boldest room in the house: black custom cabinetry, a marble waterfall island, and quartz counters in a warm veined pattern, finished with a handset tile backsplash and brushed nickel hardware. The footprint did not move — no walls were touched — which is exactly what makes the project instructive: the transformation came from cabinetry, stone, lighting, and finish decisions rather than structural change.
Same-footprint remodels trade one kind of complexity for another. Because the sink and appliance locations stayed put, the project avoided opening the slab — a meaningful saving in North Texas, where homes typically sit slab-on-grade over expansive clay and every drain relocation runs through concrete. The effort moved instead to light and storage. The original fluorescent ceiling box was removed and replaced with a layered scheme — recessed LEDs, pendants over the peninsula, under-cabinet task lighting — which meant new circuits and switching designed around how the family actually uses the room. A marble waterfall island demands careful seam and support planning so the stone reads as a single continuous piece down both sides. And refinishing the existing engineered hardwood in place, rather than replacing it, required dust-controlled sanding and finishing in an occupied home.
